In its drinking form this Naija staple food is popular because its easy to prepare (Garri- the perfect fast food for people who are too lazy to cook). But in its cooked form as a 'swallow' it is notorious. Yeah, I say that because I've seen wifey eat it...and she eats it with a passion. When people are eating this meal, they just look funny. Don't believe me? Try snapping or videoing anyone grubbing eba with some sumptious soup; or just visit any hostel in any Nigerian state or federal University and check out what guys are grubbing when they're not too broke to make a pot of stew to go with it. The Internet even has proof! See for yourselves...

I want to believe that this was a bet or a stunt.

This scenario happens a lot in Naija higher instutions,
especially in hostels that function like a community.

I told you the meal always made one look like a moron.

Sometimes you can't just figure out how people
manage to make a mountain disappear!

Even oyinbos are not left out!

Went round the net looking for outrageous shots which are mostly Nigerian and I came across these.

I guess this is what the TV series 'Spartacus' would look like if it were a Naija production.

Before it was 'yahoo yahoo' which involved conning foreigners
out of their cash on the internet. But lately I heard of one called
'yahoo plus' which was the same fraud scheme accompanied
by 'jazz', juju or voodoo. I guess this pic defnies it - African remote control!

How can this have a 'Complete Season One'? These Alaba boys sef!

I love my people. They know how to put things to good use...like using old election ballot boxes to sell puff puff.

Original versus Copycat

WHOA!!! I have been AWOL on this blog!

Forgive me for the hiatus. I was stuck between making up my mind whether to continue with this blog or close it down as I wasn't sure whether I could do something with it. Finally I got convinced to continue and here I am!

So where do I start?

Ha...yes. Nigerian movie industry is one serious culprit when it comes to copying movie titles. It makes me wonder...does stealing an existing title make the movie sell? Are Nigerians stupid enough to think its the same thing or close to it?

I mean...check this out.

Mind blowing movie that goes to extremes.

I wonder whether the stern look on the fair lady's face and the dude
was also meant to match that of the ladies in the original.

A masterpiece of a love story and an all time classic.

From the look of the pix, it seems as if
the so-called 'scent' was actually the 'fart' of a woman.

It just sucks and looking at the title and the image alone
makes me not want to watch it. What the hell?

Saw this signboard near the abandoned bridge and road construction at Sango Ota, Ogun State. It's a fan club for a local yoruba musician called 'Pasuma'. What amused me is the dumb idea of putting an American flag in the background behind the artiste's picture. What's with the 'American visa lottery' mentality?

Duh...

Anybody have an idea who a 'Saw Doctor' is? Seems kind of odd to me.

I couldn't help catching this picture on my way from church one sunday. Obviously this location used to be a joint for weed smokers as you can see the warning sign printed on the shop by its owner - "Nobody should smoke Igbo here!" lol...'Igbo' is weed in Nigerian parlance.

Edible Sanitary Pad??

I don't know about other countries, but this sanitary pad is probably the most famous amongst sanitary pads in Nigeria. It's become so popular that the word 'always' could be used to refer to any other brand of sanitary pad. When ever you hear the word 'Always' here in Nigeria, the first thing that comes to your mind is this product, which is also an international brand.

You can then imagine my shock when I came across this chocolate wafer below also called 'Always'!

Are these guys playing a joke or just being dumb about selecting a brand name for their product?

Seriously, I found it hard enjoying this wafer without thinking that I was munching on a sanitary napkin!

I like catching interesting shots. That's why while I was at the after party of the burial ceremony of a colleague's Dad, I saw this odd looking couple doing this funny dance.

I decided to snap them since I didn't have enough battery to film the hilarious moves.

I thought the chick danced the funniest until she turned to face the camera and I noticed she looked odd.

It wasn't until she came close to another of my colleagues who was seated nearby that I noticed she was actually a dude - a transvestite! My colleague was feaked and she jumped out of her chair, just in time for me to catch the shot.

I made to catch more shots but my battery went dead. I'm still wondering whether this cross dresser was for real or just a joke. It's not a common thing in these parts unlike the western world.

Holiday Capture

Warri, the capital of the waterside region of delta state doesn't have much to look at on my visit there. I was on the look out on my short termed visit. I even thought I might see signs of the militants but there was nothing of the sort.

The town looked so peaceful, you'd doubt that there was anything serious happening in the creeks.

However I did get to snap this photo of a wedding invitation of one of the leaders of the youths leading the 'struggle'. Now you've got to be loaded to fly your wedding invite on a billboard!

I don't know if he's a militant or just a youth leader during the inter tribal war. But the words on this second board got me wondering. It reads just below his name, Hon. Ayirimi Emami - 'the unrepentant defender of the youths'

Either its a wrong use of word but the word 'Unrepentant' there rather sounds negative doesn't it?

Well I did manage to catch 2 nice pics in warri - one of my sweet 7 month old daughter in a cute pose and another of her grinning with her mouth stuffed with cake!

An Igbo traditional wedding

I attended an Igbo traditional wedding some time ago. The Igbo people are eastern Nigerians renown for their enterprising spirit. Their traditional weddings are usually something to write about.

There is the first step of sharing Kolanut as a form of welcome to their guests and the groom's family. After the Kolanut is shared, a bunch of other native snackeries are served as seen in the pix below - the garden egg and groundnut paste, a mixture they called native salad, some chicken and a keg of palmwine.

The wedding cake was an interesting piece. Cake designed with Kolanut. The Igbo's treasure kolanut so much. It is alway said that the Yorubas grow Kolanut, the Hausas eat Kolanut while the Igbos celebrate Kolanut.

And then there was a trick played on the groom to guess whether it was actually his wife that was brought before him or another. It wasn't his wife so he was told to drop some cash to usher in the REAL wife.

Fianlly, the real wife steps out and dances round to welcome everybody.

I'm sorry I forgot to snap a key part of the ceremony - that is where she had to carry the wine to the man who had come to ask for her hand in marriage, whom was hidden in the crowd for her to search out.

Culture can be quite interesting. lol.

The Ilesha trip

I had limited time to take photos on my trip to Ilesha, an ancient town in Osun State, Nigeria. But I did manage to catch a couple of pics, like this old church with the beautiful ancient brickwork...

And this residence with an old unique design. This old masterpieces kick of nostalgia in me.

Then on our way back, we passed through Ibadan, Oyo State and this house on the hill caught my eye....

Lets zoom in a bit closer. Nice!

Random Snapper

It was a Sunday (yesterday to be precise) and my camera was looking for something unusual to snap. Then the rain fell for some hours...later the sun came out and both gave birth to this beautiful spectacle in the sky.

P & P Chicken Restaurant? Makes me wonder what kind of chicken they sell in this funny structure of an eatery. Hope they can give Chicken Republic a run for their money.

These Asians have come again! They are about finishing this magnificent looking hotel situated between Lekki and Victoria Island in Lagos, Nigeria. How did I know it was Asian? Check out the name and those funny symbols.

I was on my way home one night, cruising through the streets of Lagos between 8 to 9pm when I noticed the plate number of the car in front of me. I had to take the pic successivrly to be sure that it was clear enuff to be seen.

If you're a Nigerian, you'll be very familiar with the meaning of the numbers (minus the alphabets) seen in the pics. If you ain't, just google it for more explanation!

I don't own these shots - as in I didn't take them. What strikes me about these shots is the fact that they are taken from angles that show you Lagos (Nigeria) having a diferent look. And I must say Lagos does look beautiful from some angles

I once saw this location in the movie 'Phat Girls' starring American actress Monique. Anybody (from Nigeria) have any idea which location this is? I know its near the Lagoon so its got to be around Lekki or VI.

Ozumba Mbadiwe around the VI/Lekki axis. The building with the metal arc design is the Civic Centre where a lot of big time events take place.

Next entry, we'll see the other side of Lagos.
